In general, color change begins in high elevation locations (above 8,500 feet) in late September and early October, then gradually moves down to lower elevations and further south as the season progresses. Golden Gate Canyon State Park
Golden Gate Canyon State Park, just 45 minutes from Denver, is home to a classically rustic Colorado fall wedding venue—the Red Barn. Beyond the venue itself, the entire park provides an idyllic setting for your micro wedding or elopement photos. It’s not only a budget-friendly option but also incredibly accessible. Despite the park’s proximity to nearby towns, there’s a sense of privacy here, thanks to the lush fall foliage and prime canyon location.
This Colorado fall wedding venue comes alive during this season. The crisp autumn air and golden leaves create an unforgettable atmosphere for your intimate wedding or elopement. Unlike more well-known locations such as Rocky Mountain National Park or Garden of the Gods, Golden Gate Canyon offers a more private experience with countless beautiful spots for capturing your wedding portraits.
While weddings are limited to the Red Barn Group Picnic Area, you can still enjoy other scenic locations within the park for your first look or post-ceremony portraits. The Red Barn Group Picnic Area includes rental of two historic barns that have been thoughtfully renovated to include electrical outlets, lighting, and sheltered picnic tables, creating a charming, rustic setting for your fall wedding celebration. After your ceremony, consider heading to Panorama Point, where you can take wedding portraits among sweeping views of the Continental Divide and surrounded by golden aspens.
The Red Barn is available from May through October, daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and accommodates up to 100 seated guests with parking for 25 vehicles. Reservations are available through cpwshop.com and cost $150 for Monday through Friday bookings and $200 on weekends. To enter the park, you’ll pay an entrance fee of $10 per vehicle or $4 per individual. To take portraits within Golden Gate Canyon State Park, you’ll need a photography permit, applied for at least two weeks in advance, which I’m happy to obtain on your behalf.

O’Connor Pavilion
Located along Fall River Road in Estes Park, Colorado, O’Connor Pavilion offers a secluded but accessible venue for your Colorado fall wedding or elopement. While it feels peaceful and private, it’s just a short drive from downtown Estes Park, where you’ll find lodging, dining, and entertainment options.
This venue blends the best of both worlds—an expansive open meadow with breathtaking mountain views and a covered pavilion for your reception. The pavilion allows you to enjoy the crisp fall air while offering shelter in case of weather surprises.
O’Connor Pavilion accommodates up to 140 guests with 14 picnic tables seating 10 guests each, and you’ll have your choice of two stunning ceremony locations: Aspen Meadow or Deer Mountain Meadow. Both provide incredible fall backdrops, with vibrant golden aspens making for an unforgettable ceremony.
The pavilion is equipped with vaulted restrooms and is wheelchair accessible, though some areas may have rough terrain. Electricity is available for your DJ or live music, but sound levels will need to be monitored to ensure compliance with venue guidelines. The venue is available seasonally from May 27th to September 30th, with rental fees starting at $3,000 for a full day (9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.).
In addition to the pavilion, your rental includes access to outdoor recreational amenities like horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, and plenty of space for your loved ones to relax. You can also bring your own vendors, including catering and entertainment, and alcohol is permitted, so you can personalize your celebration to your liking.
With its meadow ceremony spaces, covered reception area, and nearby natural spots for photos, O’Connor Pavilion offers a versatile, scenic location for your Colorado fall wedding or elopement.

Maroon Bells Amphitheater
No Colorado fall wedding venue guide would be complete without mentioning the breathtaking Maroon Bells, located in Aspen. About 3.5 hours from Denver, this iconic location is the nation’s most photographed mountain range, offering jaw-dropping views that make the trip well worth it for your intimate fall wedding or elopement.
Maroon Bells Amphitheater can accommodate up to 50 guests and is available for reservation up to a year in advance for $200. Given its popularity, it’s important to reserve early, as spots fill up quickly—especially during the fall months. Keep in mind that weekend reservations aren’t available during September and October.
Due to vehicle restrictions on Maroon Creek Road, only five vehicle passes are issued per wedding. These passes allow motorized access past the Maroon Bells Welcome Station. Other guests can take the Maroon Bells shuttle bus from Aspen Highlands Ski Area, which costs $16 per adult and $10 for seniors and children under 12. Shuttle reservations are essential, and pets are welcome on board. However, for easier logistics, I recommend renting a party bus or arranging other group transportation.
While receptions aren’t allowed at the amphitheater itself, the nearby East Maroon Portal Picnic site offers a lovely spot for your intimate post-ceremony celebration of up to 75 people. The picnic site, tucked along Maroon Creek, creates a peaceful setting for a relaxed reception. An alternative solution would be to host your post-ceremony celebration at a nearby Airbnb.

Point Park lies about 2 hours from Denver along the shores of Colorado’s largest lake, Grand Lake.
