Boreas Pass is situated just a scenic two-hour drive from Denver between Breckenridge and Como. At an elevation of approximately 12,500 feet, this picturesque dirt road boasts panoramic views of the Colorado Rockies.

While Boreas Pass is stunning year-round, it is especially magical during the fall months. The aspen trees that line the road turn a brilliant golden hue, creating a breathtaking backdrop that complements the majestic Colorado mountain vistas. This combination of golden foliage and dramatic landscapes makes Boreas Pass an ideal location for popping the question.

What’s even better, you won’t need a permit to have your proposal photographed here, making it a seamless choice for capturing this special moment against one of Colorado’s most scenic backdrops.

Mayflower Gulch

Mayflower Gulch lies about 1.5 hours from Denver near Copper Mountain and Breckenridge. This location offers increased privacy due to its 3-mile round trip hike, and access to the trailhead is easy with convenient parking.

What sets Mayflower Gulch apart is its stunning features, including a quaint ghost town and picturesque tree-lined tails. As you hike along the Mayflower Gulch Trail, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the expansive basin and the surrounding ridge line—also a perfect backdrop for capturing your post-proposal engagement photos.

Chautauqua Park

Chautauqua Park is a portion of an iconic historic landmark that dates back to when the City of Boulder began preserving wild lands over 100 years ago. Just a short 45-minute drive from Denver, this little pocket of sunshine is a great spot for your proposal.

Sitting at the foot of Boulder’s famed Flatirons, the views here are absolutely stunning, especially around golden hour. This is also a great spot to view some wildflowers if you visit from May through early August. Also, you won’t have to worry about obtaining a permit for your proposal photography since I always carry the required Boulder OSMP permit. So, capturing this big step in your story against this picturesque Colorado backdrop is hassle-free.

Sapphire Point Overlook

Sapphire Point Overlook, located between Keystone and Breckenridge, is just under 1.5 hours from Denver and serves as an ideal Colorado proposal location. This remarkable spot offers incredible views of the Gore and Tenmile mountains, with serene Lake Dillon below. And, sitting at an elevation of 9,500 feet, it showcases its beauty no matter what season you pop the question.

One of the reasons Sapphire Point is so popular for proposals and engagement photos alike is its combination of stunning mountain vistas and accessibility– being ADA-accessible. Due to its popularity, securing privacy without a reservation can be challenging. However, while no permit is required, reserving the overlook ensures increased privacy for your special moment. This option is particularly beneficial for planning your proposal!

Lost Gulch

Lost Gulch, located just outside Boulder and a short one-hour drive from Denver, is an excellent choice for your Colorado proposal. The vistas at Lost Gulch are simply breathtaking, offering sweeping mountain views that will undoubtedly leave your partner in awe. The westward-facing overlook provides panoramic views of the Indian Peaks Wilderness and the mountain peaks of Rocky Mountain National Park.

While Lost Gulch is stunning year-round, the period between June and October typically offers the most favorable weather for a proposal. It’s important to note that winter months can bring slippery trails and cause chain laws to go into effect on Flagstaff Mountain. To photograph your proposal here, you’ll need a Boulder OSMP permit, which I always carry to ensure a smooth experience.

Rocky Mountain National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park stands as one of the most coveted destinations within the entire national park system, and for good reason.

Offering expansive mountain views, serene forests, and picturesque alpine lakes, Rocky Mountain National Park provides an ideal location for your Colorado proposal. Just 1.5 hours from Denver, it offers a convenient escape from urban life. You might even have the chance to encounter Colorado’s fascinating wildlife during your proposal!

Although the park is accessible year-round, be mindful of potential winter road closures. For the best experience and if your timeline allows, consider planning your proposal during the spring or fall seasons to avoid the rush of the summer crowds.

Golden Gate Canyon State Park

Golden Gate Canyon State Park lies just a short 45-minute drive from Denver. Despite its accessibility, the park boasts abundant natural beauty. The aspen trees here are nothing short of phenomenal, particularly in the fall, when they burst into a brilliant display of golden hues. While there are numerous idyllic proposal locations within the park, Panorama Point stands out for its breathtaking views of the Continental Divide. Mt. Falcon

Mount Falcon is a Colorado gem that offers awe-inspiring views of the Front Range and a lush evergreen forest, making it an ideal choice for your Colorado proposal. Just a little over 40 minutes away from Denver, it’s a convenient option that avoids the gamble of navigating I-70 during the winter months. Thanks to the abundant evergreen trees, this area remains lush throughout the year.

The beauty of Mount Falcon truly shines during the golden hours of sunrise and sunset, perfect for enchantingly warm-hued proposal photos. While you’ll need a Jefferson County (JeffCo) permit to have your portraits or engagement session here, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered. I always carry this permit, so you won’t have to worry about a thing.

Alpine Lake Proposal Locations in Colorado

Loveland Pass

Loveland Pass, home to Pass Lake, stands as one of the highest mountain pass roads in the country. This easily accessible location remains open year-round, with winter roads regularly cleared for access. For mountain enthusiasts, this spot offers breathtaking mountain-top views and a serene alpine lake setting, all at over 11,500 feet in elevation.

Snow blankets the area for much of the year, creating a winter wonderland perfect for late summer escapes or capturing Colorado’s magical snowfall during the fall and early winter months. Conveniently located just over an hour from Denver and close to towns like Breckenridge and Georgetown, you can celebrate your proposal with a delightful meal at one of these mountain town’s breweries or restaurants. Whether it’s a proposal, engagement photos, or both, Loveland Pass + Pass Lake promises an unforgettable experience without the need for a permit.

Dillon Reservoir / Lake Dillon

Dillon Reservoir, also known as Lake Dillon, is a scenic mountain lake that sits between Dillon and Frisco, with Silverthorne just below the dam. Located a short drive from Breckenridge and approximately 1.25 hours from Denver, it offers a versatile and stunning setting to propose in Colorado.

With 26 miles of shoreline surrounded by stunning mountain vistas, Dillon Reservoir provides a picturesque and easily accessible backdrop for your engagement photos or portrait session. If you’re aiming to capture the golden aspens during the fall, you’ll be treated to breathtaking foliage alongside the alpine lake.

Summer and fall typically offer mild temperatures at this location, while winter transforms the lake into a glittering frozen expanse. Fortunately, you won’t need a permit to have your proposal photographed at Dillon Reservoir.

St. Mary’s Glacier

St. Mary’s Glacier, a popular hiking spot near Idaho Springs, is just an hour’s drive from Denver. This picturesque location offers stunning views of an alpine lake and the surrounding lush evergreen forest. Perched at an elevation of 11,000 feet, the lake can be icy in winter but provides a refreshing escape from the summer heat.

In addition to the breathtaking lake, the 1.5-mile round-trip hike offers a memorable experience and a beautiful backdrop to begin the next chapter of your story together. While there are parking fees, no permit is required to capture your special moment in this picturesque setting.

For An “Otherworldy” Proposal Experience

Great Sand Dunes National Park

Great Sand Dunes National Park is an extraordinarily dynamic and awe-inspiring proposal location. Home to the tallest sand dune in North America, and set against the backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, it’s a place that feels completely ‘otherworldly.’ Despite its unique landscape, this location is surprisingly only 3.5 hours from Denver.

The best time to propose here is from June to October when warmer temperatures mitigate the oftentimes windy conditions. As a designated Dark Sky Location, it offers a unique opportunity for stunning night portraits as well. 

Urban Colorado Proposal Locations

Denver Botanic Gardens

Denver Botanic Gardens, right in the heart of Denver, offers a plethora of whimsical backdrops for your proposal. Its diverse and vibrant gardens transform into a living gallery of colors and textures, especially from April to October when the blooms are at their peak.

While this fun and colorful location requires a permit for photographing your proposal, rest assured—I’ll handle the logistics to ensure everything runs smoothly. All you need to do is focus on creating a memorable moment as you enter your engaged era together.

The Byron White Courthouse

The Byron White Courthouse is one of my favorite urban spots for proposals and engagement photos. Built in 1916, and full of history, it was constructed with stunning neo-classical design that adds a touch of history to downtown Denver. Its sixteen majestic, three-story marble columns have bestowed it the nickname “a poem in marble.” What makes this building even more special is that it uses the same marble as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Year-round, this location exudes timeless elegance, like something out of a romantic movie. The best part? The required permit to photograph your proposal here is completely free. This means we can focus solely on your big moment in this historic and magnificent Colorado proposal location without any logistical hassles.

Cheesman Park

Cheesman Park, conveniently located east of Capitol Hill in the heart of Denver, spans a generous 80 acres, making it an ideal choice for your proposal and engagement photos. A prominent feature of the park is the Cheesman Memorial, a Greek-style pavilion with stunning white columns, erected in 1910.

During the vibrant summer months, Cheesman Park bursts to life with lush greenery and a variety of tree species. Garden of the Gods is undoubtedly the most photographed location in all of Colorado Springs. Just 1.25 hours from Denver, it’s a dream location for proposing to your special someone, thanks to its fiery red rock formations and views of Pikes Peak and the Front Range.

Here, you can nestle among vibrant rock formations or enjoy sweeping views of snow-capped mountains. The best part? No permit is needed to photograph your proposal here. Because the location can get busy, especially during summer, I recommend planning your proposal at sunrise or on a weekday for a more intimate experience.

Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre

Just a short 20-minute drive from Denver, this location shines year-round and is easily accessible. For the best weather conditions, I recommend visiting from early summer to fall. Summer, in particular, is dotted with vibrant wildflowers that add a burst of color to your proposal photos.

In-Home + Airbnb Proposals
